David on the issues that matter

CORONAVIRUS SAFETY FOR LOCALS

We need cleaning of high touch points in our local shopping centres so we can all feel at ease going into the shops for a coffee, takeaway or to do our weekly shop. All levels of government must do their part to stop the spread of this virus.

CORONAVIRUS BUSINESS SUPPORT PACKAGE

I have a plan for local small business. I will support our traders through rates waivers, lower rates and grants to assist businesses to move online. A new Nillumbik Online Marketplace will be set up to allow businesses and locals to sell their products and for locals to source local products and groceries.

LOW RATES

I will fight to keep rates low. Excellent financial management is essential if we are to deliver the services we need.

MORE FOOTPATHS

All residents, young and old, need to be able to get around safely as they head to the local cafe for a coffee or out for some fresh air with the kids. Too often the only choice in some areas is to go on the road.

I will, if elected, modernise our streets so that residents of all ages can enjoy our area safely. This isn’t a one size fits all approach so I want to hear from you about your needs for footpaths in the streets you walk on.

SEAL ROADS IN WINGROVE WARD

Our local streets should be able to be enjoyed by local residents walking and should be easy and safe to drive on. If elected I will fight to ensure that every road is sealed in Wingrove Ward. This should be funded out of our current rate base. You pay your hard earned and I will fight for us to maintain low rates but improve services by focusing on the basics.

FIRE SAFETY

I live on a property with a bushfire overlay. I’m extremely conscious of the devastating impact a bushfire could have on our area. I will ensure that Council are appropriately managing Council land and that we adopt policies which allow for residents to help us mitigate fire even in the hot summer periods.

COMMON SENSE PLANNING AND HOUSING POLICY

My view is simple. Development that the state government is pushing on us should go in the inner city first. I support sensible redevelopment of old non-heritage homes into new family homes but we don’t need high-rise living in Eltham.

I support Nillumbik going to 100% renewables!

I will lead a Council which shows climate leadership whilst keeping your rates low.

As your elected representative I will lead a Council that gets the balance right.

As of the 15th September, the tender for its development and operation has been finally awarded to a renewable energy project company. Initial PPA and REFA agreement (15 Years) is for the delivery of approximately 2,000MWh which is the current Council requirements for Council occupied sites and street lighting.

This will form a key component of Council’s commitment to a practical and very local emission reduction, and will contribute significantly to helping Council reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

It will be integral to efforts to achieve meaningful and measurable emission reduction.

It is also a practical use of a former landfill site for which there would otherwise be limited options and critically, it offers the opportunity to deliver cost savings to Council and ratepayers.

The project will see Council exceed national renewable energy targets, and means council will go beyond simple compliance with the Commonwealth’s renewable energy targets.

Upon completion, Council-owned sites will purchase 100 per cent renewable energy – a great outcome for the environment, Council and the community. It will lower emissions and lower energy costs, as well as make an important contribution to the development of new, renewable energy in Victoria, thereby putting Nillumbik ahead on some key measures.

The Solar Farm completion is one of my top priorities upon being elected as your Wingrove Ward Councillor.
